Executive Board Descriptions:

Responsible for coordination between the PTO and the school. Responsibilities include leading the monthly PTO Board meetings, meeting with school principals, creating a budget, balancing financial resources and managing communications. The president supervises, directs and coordinates the work of the PTO.

The VP is an ambassador for the PTO and the school. Responsibilities include assisting the President as needed and accepting responsibilities delegated by the President and/or the Board. The VP participates in Board discussions and decision making on behalf of the PTO.

The Secretary is responsible for recording minutes and compiling updates from the monthly PTO board meetings and then distributes them to the board members.

Oversees the cash flow of income and expenses for the PTO. Responsibilities include writing checks, reimbursements and preparing treasurer’s reports. A person with a financial background is desired.

Assists organization in the drafting and interpretation of bylaws and rules of order, and the planning and conduct of meetings.

Works with local businesses to partner with the PTO. Seeks new business partnerships and executes partnership agreements (example- Tier levels, shout outs on FB Page for involvement, etc.)

Encourage people to join PTO, having a presence for the PTO at school events, organizing Spirit Nights

Solicits businesses for donations, advertises and executes a Fall fundraiser and Spring fundraiser

Helps with tasks around the school (library, book fair, fine arts, copy room, room moms etc.)

Help create, advertise, sell and deliver spirit wear

Plans teacher appreciation events throughout the year as well as teacher appreciation week

Partners with counselors and other staff to assist in organization and execution of events for students (Spotlight ceremonies, field day, student council events, etc)

Partners with the technology coach to assist with production, sales and distribution of yearbooks.

Election Info

 Nominations:

  • Nominations for the 2026-2027 PTO executive board will open on February 1, 2026. Online nominations will end on March 3 at 11:59pm. Last minute nominations can be made in-person during the general PTO meeting in March at Gordon-Reed Elementary.
  • Only voting members of the PTO are eligible to be nominated for elected positions.
  • A CISD employee can hold any Executive Board Member position except for the position of Treasurer. No matter what office is held, a CISD employee shall not be allowed to be a signer for any bank account, per CISD guidelines.
  • Only those persons who have previously served on the Board of Directors as an Officer or Standing Committee Chairman shall be eligible to be nominated for the office of President.

Voting:

  • Voting will begin at the conclusion of the general PTO meeting in March at Gordon-Reed Elementary. Voting will be open for 2 days.
  • Voting will be done using an online form that will be posted on this page and emailed to the PTO membership.
  • Voting eligibility is based on payment of the annual dues for the 2025-2026 school year as stated in Article V of the bylaws. Only voting members shall be eligible to serve in any of the PTO’s elective or appointed positions or to vote on any issues presented to the general membership.
